May 2014 - Article of Fair Play Country Music by Gaby Agrikola

Fair Play Country Music

Born into the music!

Sharine O´ Neill is an Austrian country singer from the city of Dornbirn, she started with her music career, when she was just a little child in the age of 9, played accordion and at the age of 11 she started to give private lesson in accordion. Later she was teaching at different music schools in Austria. So she started real young to work at her career, but that was no wonder at all, because in her entire family, they all played one or two instruments, that because of the influence of her father, which played in a band in those days. Music played always an important part in her life and it always will be.
At the age of 19 she started to play guitar and then she composed her first own music, by that time she loved country folk and blues music. Then she started playing with “The Gold Rush Country Band”, but after a few months she left them again, because she wanted to start her own career and that was the point, when she began to write songs.
In 1999 she act within an aid project for the victims of the Balkan war, there she released her first single called “Yugoslavia Burns”. This single was very successful and with the help of the Red Cross, they could help a few victims with the money.
In 2011 she started with the help of the Red Cross a second new aid project, for the victims of the Japanese disaster, during the project , she released her single “White Roses”. She made the charity double CD called S.O.S - “Save Our Souls”, together with 27 Austrian bands. This is a real cool performance.
So now and then, she gathers some friends around her to record the songs she makes. The music and the friends are changing sometimes, that depends on the project she makes. She is also known under the name of Sharine O´ Neill & Friends.

Gaby:
Music has many new fans throughout Europe, they may hear about you for the first time. How would you describe yourself and the music you make, to someone who has never seen, or heard about you?
Sharine:
A typical European country girl doing country and folk music on me own, sometimes composing in other genres too and sounding somehow like Tammy Wynette. Than it can happen that I record some Abba like songs or do sound like Stevie Nicks again. Do my music just the way I feel. I write my songs, gather some musicians around me and record it in my own studio.

Gaby:
How has been the last year for you? What are the highlights?
Sharine:
Well, not bad at all. I did release some singles, which are playing in various radio stations.

Gaby:
Do you write the songs by yourself? If not, how do you manage to find the perfect songs for your CD?

Sharine:
Yes, I write all my songs myself and do the recording, mixing, mastering together with my husband Oskar.

Gaby:
Your current single is played on the radio. What made it so special, that people wanna hear that song?
Sharine:
The latest single is a country duet with the Berlin Cowboy "Gilbrecht". the title is „Let’s get something started". This is the only song I performed so far without being written by me. Let's get something started was written by Kenny Pulley, a songwriter from Michigan, US. The music tracks were recorded and mixed in a Nashville studio and the singing tracks were recorded in Hungary and Austria. So it really is an international production.

Gaby:
How does your next single look like?
Sharine:
Ooohhh, it’s hard to look into the future ... I mean I do my songs the way I feel at the very moment ... but there is a few coming up very soon. One will be "Red Hot Land", some sort of a Country/Folk ballad about Down Under (Australia). Another one is called "If met you just around the corner", a more rocky country song about my traveling and Love. Right now we are working on a sort of Abba like song called "Watching". This one has got an under title in Aboriginal Language: "Goniemah Wallomeyenwallo" that means North-east wind ... where do you go. The lyrics are about nature and weather and its changing from summer to autumn. This one will sure be released with a new video. And sometimes this year I will release “Boom Boom Boom” another Country duet written by myself. My singing partner on this one will kept as a secret at the moment.

Gaby:
You did a duet with Gilbrecht. How did you get together?
Sharine:
Ooohhh, just fine, he is a very nice person and very good friend. I like him a lot ... his always around when needed.

Gaby:
What is your favorite song among all the songs you have recorded and what is the story behind?
Sharine:
Well, my favorite still is "Red dust in my eyes". A slow folk song in a 6/8 beat. It’s a song about reincarnation seen through the eyes of a raindrop.

Gaby:
How much creative control do you have about your music?
Sharine:
All and everything

Gaby:
As an artist, you so many tasks such as recording, touring, interviews. What do you like most, what is your favorite activity?
Sharine:
Definitely writing and recording.

Gaby:
What inspired you to become a songwriter?
Sharine:
Getting my feelings turned into music.

Gaby:
Any thought of retirement ahead?
Sharine:
Hihihihi.... no not at all!

Gaby:
When you get time off, how do you like to relax?
Sharine:
Just sleeping, in front of the TV.

Gaby:
Is there anything in your life that you would change if you could?
Sharine:
No, not really, just trying to improve myself and my work all the time.

Gaby:
What kind of hopes and desires do you have?
Sharine:
I would like to write songs for a big star.

Gaby:
Many European fans travel to the United States to attend several music festivals for the opportunity to see as many of their favorite artists, bands and celebrities as they can. If you would be one of these favorite artists, where in the United States could the fans find you?
Sharine:
Nashville

Gaby:
Is there any place on earth, you haven't played yet, and that you would like capture?
Sharine:
Yeah, sure ... Sydney Opera House. I'm a huge fan of Australia and traveled there for quite a while.

Gaby:
Many music fans today get their information about artists online. Do you have your own website and what would your fans see there?

Sharine:
Yep - my website is
www.sharine-o-neill.com. My latest news, private pics ... my music, videos and ... well actually all about me that fans like to know.

Gaby:
What kind of message would you like to give to your European fans?
Sharine:
Ooohhh, I love all my fans and -I'm aware of that without them I would be nothing on the music market. So many thanks from deep down of my heart to all of them!!!

Gaby:
You have a new love in your life? Would you like to tell us about her/him?
Sharine:
My love is lasting since I have been 19 years old and I know it is forever and beyond.

Gaby:
Describe what a perfect day would look like for you.
Sharine:
Oh, never thought about that ... probably ... on a sunny day in the pool, having champagne breakfast, going on a ride on my favorite horse afterwards and relaxing later on with my family!

Gaby:
Thank you Sharine, it was a pleasure communicating, I hope we see each other in the near future, than we can talk together about Australia

Die Sängerin Sharine selbst sagt dazu: „I’m sitting here watching the nature play …
